privacy policy

last updated 26 july 2026 · effective 26 july 2026

the short version: habeat keeps your practice on your device, and mirrors it to your own private iCloud so it follows you between your devices. we don't run accounts, we have no server collecting your habits, and we don't sell or share anything. the rest of this page explains that in full.

who we are

habeat (“habeat”, “we”, “us”) is an iOS application that helps you keep the daily habits you care about. this policy describes how the app handles information. it applies to the habeat app and this website. it does not apply to apple's services, which are governed by apple's privacy policy.

our approach

habeat is built to be private by design, not by promise. the app works fully offline. your habits, streaks, notes and history are created and stored on your device. we have no central database of users and no way to read your practice. there are no habeat accounts to create and no login.

what we do not collect

we do not collect, receive, store on our own servers, or sell any of the following:

  • your habits, streaks, vibe themes, notes, or check-in history;
  • your name, email address, phone number, or contacts;
  • your precise or coarse location;
  • advertising identifiers — habeat contains no ads and no ad SDKs;
  • cross-app or cross-site tracking data of any kind.

because we don't collect this information, we can't share or sell it, and there's nothing of yours for us to lose.

what's stored on your device

the content you create in habeat — your habits, the identity and cue behind each one, your daily holds and rest days, streak history, chosen themes, and app settings — is stored locally on your device using apple's on-device storage frameworks. this data stays under your control. removing the app removes this local data from that device.

icloud sync

habeat uses apple's iCloud / CloudKit to keep your practice consistent across your own devices. it is free for everyone, on by default, and needs no sign-in of ours. this data is stored in your private iCloud database, tied to your apple id, and is handled under apple's terms and security — not ours. we never receive a copy and cannot access it. the local copy on your device stays the source of truth, so habeat works fully offline. to stop syncing, manage habeat's data or turn off iCloud Drive in your device's iCloud settings; the same controls delete the mirrored copy.

on-device intelligence

habeat can write a brief “vibe summary” of your recent practice. this is generated entirely on your device using on-device intelligence. the content used to produce it does not leave your phone, is not sent to us, and is not sent to any third party for processing.

purchases

habeat premium is sold as an in-app purchase or auto-renewing subscription processed by apple through the app store. payments, billing, and your payment method are handled by apple — we never see or store your card or payment details. we receive from apple only the information needed to unlock the features you bought (for example, a receipt or transaction confirmation validated on your device). subscription management and billing history live in your apple id settings. apple's handling of this data is covered by apple's privacy policy.

diagnostics & analytics

habeat does not include third-party analytics, marketing, or tracking SDKs. if you choose to share crash and usage diagnostics with developers through your device's privacy settings, apple may send us aggregate, anonymised diagnostic reports to help us fix bugs. these reports are provided by apple, are not linked to your identity, and you can turn them off at any time in settings → privacy & security → analytics & improvements.

third parties

the only third party involved in running habeat is apple, which provides the app store, in-app purchases, iCloud sync, and optional diagnostics. we do not use advertising networks, data brokers, or external analytics providers. we do not sell, rent, or trade your information to anyone — there is no such information for us to trade.

children

habeat is rated for general audiences and is not directed to children under the age of 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your country). we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. since the app collects no personal information from anyone, no special children's data is gathered.

keeping & deleting your data

your data stays on your device for as long as you keep the app. you are always in control:

  • delete a habit or its history from within the app at any time;
  • export your data to a CSV file you control, from settings;
  • delete the app to remove its local data from that device;
  • remove synced data via your iCloud settings.

because we hold no server-side copy of your practice, deletion on your device and in your iCloud is complete.

your rights

depending on where you live, you may have rights under laws such as the EU/UK GDPR or the california consumer privacy act (CCPA/CPRA) — including the right to access, correct, delete, or port your personal data, and the right not to be sold. habeat is designed so you can exercise these directly: your data is in your hands, on your device, and exportable and deletable by you at any time. we do not sell personal information and do not process it for behavioural advertising. if you have a question about your rights, write to us and we'll help.

security

your practice is protected by your device's own security — including device passcode, face id / touch id, and apple's data protection. the synced mirror is protected by apple's iCloud security. no method of storage is perfectly secure, but keeping your data on-device and out of a central server removes the largest target.

changes to this policy

if we change how habeat handles information, we'll update this page and revise the “last updated” date above. material changes will be reflected here before they take effect. continuing to use habeat after an update means you accept the revised policy.
